I know. We tend to minimize our own hurt while we empathize and cry with others. And there are a few out there who believe their pain is the worst ever. Maybe some experiences do cause more pain. I can't imagine losing a child. However, comparing pain does no one good. It doesn't encourage or lessen anyone's pain; it just causes us to feel minimized and unworthy. So it's a futile practice.

Thanks for reading!

Jessi, I love your analogy: "...think about your last trip to the doctor or emergency room. One of the questions frequently asked is, “How would you rate your pain on a scale from one to 10?” Never do they ask, “And how do you think your pain compares to the person in the next room?” It would be ludicrous, and yet we do it with emotional pain all the time."

Brilliantly true.
